Contemporary calf with gilt-bordered covers and ornately stamped gilt spine. Tall octavo. 256pp. A collection of verse by the poet born in Carlisle, a city in Cumbria, England. Barton, known as the Quaker Poet, was the author of "The Convict's Appeal", a criticism of the death penalty and criminal code. A good copy with some scuffing and wear to the leather covers and some tenderness to the cover hinges although the binding is tight and firm. The text is very good with some light soiling and wear.
