A fine volume preserved in a slipcase. Tan calf boards with Royal Marine Library Portsmouth in gilt on front board and a decorative border. Raised bands to spine. title labels are missing. Shoulders have cracked. Signs of previous repair. Leather is much scuffed and the spine is very worn. However internally the book is in remarkably good condition. Pages are age-tanned with light foxing but clean. Binding is tight. Marbled endpapers. Previous owner's book plate on fep. Maps are creased but in fair condition. This volume was written by Sir John Moore's brother, using his original letters, official papers and journals. A wonderful contemporary account of the Peninsular War. A rare first edition.
