The author?s only work. Hunter was present on board H. M. S. Dido during various episodes in the Anglo-Egyptian war in Syria in 1850. A British-Turkish military force invaded Lebanon in September 1840 in order to coerce the Egyptian forces led by Ibrahim Pasha to leave Syria, and the return of the Ottoman rule. The work is dedicated to Admiral Stopford under whose command Hunter served during that war. It includes detailed accounts of the occupation of several Lebanese coastal cities, and excursions into the Lebanon as well as correspondence, official documents and appendix listing the honours conferred upon Stopford.
