The first and most extensive part of this publication is titled 'National Anecdotes and Historical Facts.' and appears to be a reworking of a similar collection issued by Thiselton in 1792. 'National Proverbs or English Proverbial Sayings', which makes up the second part, is intended for the amusement and instruction of juvenile readers. The final part is titled 'National Sentiments and Toasts' and contains over one thousand drinking toasts. While William Matthew Thiselton's principal occupation was as a printer, he states in the preface to this collection, 'that he was induced to take up his pen as a source of relaxation from the more sedulous duties of his profession'.
