This is the true first edition by William Morrow & Co. It also is a very early work of by Edgar Parin D'Aulaire (best known for Lief the Lucky, Benjamin Franklin, The Book of Greek Myths, The Book of Norse Myths, and other beautifully illustrated volumes), prior to teaming up with his wife, Ingri, to form their legendary collaborative, Caldecott-winning author/illustrator pair. This book is in Very Good+ condition, tightly bound and clean, heavily illustrated in black and white and 8 full-page color plates. This is a nice copy for the d'Aulaire collector.
