Near Fine. Original blue cloth binding with border, gold gilt lettering on the spine. Original unclipped dust jacket. Patterned decorated endpages. Extremely minor fading of the spine, otherwise externally the book is in superb condition. Internally, there is light foxing towards the end of the textblock, but otherwise the book is completely clean. The textblock is square and tight. The dust jacket is in excellent condition, with only minor wear at the head and base of the spine and the leading edge of the front board. Very light staining on the rear. Ephemera, including a photograph of a presentation of an honorary degree at a University (subjects unknown); an article from the New York Times about the release of the book ?The Beauty Of The Brain?; and an address of someone in Mexico.

This is a first edition, second state of the final book published by Father of Neuroscience, Santiago Ramon Y Cajal. Published as an article in 1933, this was the last work of Ramon Y Cajal before his death in 1934. In the book, he continues his defence of the neuron theory of the brain - one he spent his entire career advocating for, and for which he was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1906. The book is written in Spanish and was later translated to English and published in 1954 (see our other listings, as we have this copy available as well). The book is extensively illustrated with the beautiful drawings of Ramon Y Cajal - he spent much of his career bent over a microscope making detailed beautiful illustrations of neurons, even if you don?t have much interest in his scientific works you can appreciate the beauty of the drawings. For those with an interest in collecting scientific works, this book is very unique and only held in a few libraries across the world.
