Written by one of the world's earliest female psychiatrists who had a complex and fascinating history: breaking with Freud, striking out against Naziism, immigrating to Brooklyn, sharing an intimate relationship with Erich Fromm, and being one of the first in the world to write about feminine psychology. This is Dr. Horney's first book, and very uncommon in first edition stated. Her complex philosophies brought her both fame and notoriety, attracted both advocates from women's groups, and women who believed she was a traitor to the cause. It's worth examining her career and writing as a pioneer in the field. This Very Good+ copy has only minor wear to the tips and has a previous own'er name written on the verso of the front cover. The Very Good dust jacket retains the original $3.00 price on the flap; the spine is chipped a quarter-inch across Altogether, the book is clean and bright and tight.
