Kem Luther grew up on a prairie ranch in western Nebraska. He has lived in Illinois, Virginia, Ontario and British Columbia. While in Ontario he was Sheridan College's director of the Communication, Culture and Information Technology joint program with the University of Toronto. The Next Generation Gap is his second book of social history.
