The very scarce first edition of this volume by Jenifer Wayne, British author of children's literature. This is one of her three volumes featuring the same group of three children, together with theSprout series andThe Day the Ceiling Fell Down. Following the story of Louis, Japhet, and Rose, with much drama and laughter in the life of what seems like an ordinary family.Loosely inserted in this volume, a letter signed by Charles Pick, managing director of William Heinemann, addressed to Baroness Ludmila von Falz-Fein. The letter reads: "I was very pleased to have your postcard from Egypt letting me know that you came first in class once again. This is splendid news and I hope to have more postcards from you during the summer. // Please tell Mummy that the postcard was franked "towards a world free from hunger". Perhaps you would remind her that Uncle Paul's new book is called 'Love, Let Me Not Hunger.' // I hope you will enjoy this novel by Jenifer Wayne," dated 1963. Uncle Paul refers to American novelist Paul Gallico, best remembered forThe Snow Goose andThe Poseidon Adventure. Acquired from the sale of Gallico's library.With the unclipped dust wrapper. In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally very smart with only minor shelf wear and a minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and extremities, with a minor spotting to the edges, particularly to the top edge, and a minor damp staining to the head of the spine.
