About this Item
The scarce first edition of this religious utopian work, written by Mary Anne Hearn, under her pseudonym Marianne Farningham. The first edition of the work. Scarce, bound in the original publisher's binding. With eight pages of publisher's advertisements to the rear of the work. Written by poet and author Mary Anne Hearn, under her pseudonym Marianne Farningham. Hearn was particularly notable as one of very few lower class authors to publish during the Victorian period. A prolific author, her works were often religious in tone, with Nineteen Hundred depicting a Utopian society in which The Christian Party secures control of the government. An unusual example of a working class female author's utopian writings. In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally very smart with slight bumping to the extremities and the head and tail of the spine. The odd mark to the boards. Slightly cocked. Internally firmly bound. Pages bright and clean with just the odd spot. Several leaves remain unopened. Very Good Indeed. Seller Inventory # 872Z2
