London, Secker & Warburg, 1950, 1st ed., 2nd impression, 312 pag., original green cloth lettered in red with dustjacket (green variant). = Rare copy of the second impression of 1950 (first: 1949) with the original dustjacket in the green variant preserved (unclipped). Orwell's all time classic, set in a dystopian future where the repressed population endures a totalitarian regime through the use of mass surveillance and propaganda. Terms such as newspeak, thought crime, doublethink, and thought police are used, as well as Big Brother. The adjective 'Orwellian' has now become a synonym for totalitarian and authoritarian social practices. Dustjacket margins and joints a bit rubbed and chipped, with only some loss at spine-ends (outer ca. 0,1-0,4 cm.) with all text intact and the spine unfaded, still contrasting wonderfully with the text. The jacket is unrepaired with no closed tears and unclipped. The green cloth has a vague offsetting of the lettering from the dustjacket text onto frontpanel and some fading along edges as is common for this work. The binding is tight and square. Books are in very good or better antiquarian condition, unless described otherwise. Serious defects are stated, minor defects not always. All prices are in Euro, tax included, but without postage, packing and bank charges, which are at buyer's expense. Shipping of books after receipt of payment - usually within 2-3 business days. Shipping of books outside the EU, or to commercial and institional addresses is at buyers risk. Airmail & insurance rates on request. Displayed shipping costs are based on books weight 2.2 LB, or 1 KG. If your order is heavy or oversized, we may contact you to let you know extra shipping is required. All disputes which may arise are subject to Dutch law.
We welcome direct orders and also accept WISE and Paypal payments at cost.
