Revived from the dead, gangster Victor Monroe abandons his criminal past and begins speaking of secrets old as Sumer, and quickly becomes the dictator of the United States. Miracle cures, thought projection on a screen, secret sessions of Congress, Death rays, the wrecking of Wall Street. In the later portions of the book, there follows a Japanese invasion of the West Coast, the emptying of prisons to form combat battalions, and a tirade against the World League of Religions. The auhtor s prologue describes how the book was dictated to him by a young girl: "She seemed much as other young girls of my acquaintance … but possessing one distinctive feature -- her eyes. They were of the utmost brilliance and had depth and seeming knowledge unbelievable in one so young." The young girl, Niphrata the Messenger, "though men call me The Unknown," reappears to warn the heedless dictator and his cronies; Armageddon ensues. A crackpot novel of excruciating style! Uncommon.
