Stated 8th printing in February, 1952 of the first edition of November, 1951. Bound in green cloth with author's facsimile signature stamped in gilt on the front cover; title and author in gilt on the spine.light wear on corners and spine caps. Spine has darkened and there is a thin line of sun-toning along the top cover edges. Otherwise, pages are clean, smooth and unmarked. The binding is firm. Profusely illustrated with photographs in black and white. The author was an American naturalist and photographer who documented environmental conditions in tNorth America 1930-1980. He won the Pulitzer Prize in Non-Fiction for his book" Wandering Through Winter" in 1966.

Friends of the Curtis Memorial Library, based in Brunswick, Maine is a non-profit corporation that exists solely to assist the Curtis Memorial Library in its many activities, principally through fundraising by the sale of used books. Operating through a retail outlet located at 200 Maine St. in Brunswick and through its on-line sales activities, Curtis Friends operates only with volunteers from the local community and sells only those books donated by its constituents. Curtis Friends has been in existence for several decades.
