Sm4to. Frontispiece, tissue-guard, title page, printer's page, 225-532pp. (page 225 has VOL. II in the lower right corner), 8pp. of publisher's ads. First edition. Poor condition. Brown (?) cloth covered boards with elaborate blind-stamped border designs and gilt-stamped oriental figure on front panel; same border and figure on back panel, all blind-stamped. Remnant of spine appears to be sectioned and with gilt-stamped lettering and graphics. This Notes book appears to be part of a 2-volume set of the "Narrative of the voyage of H.M.S. Samarang, during the years 1843-46." by Sir Edward Belcher and Arthur Adams. Both the Narrative set and this Notes book are very scarce, other than this copy, we could only locate the Notes book in a 2016 paperback. The book is in poor condition, not much helped by a shoddy attempt at repair. Boards are original, partial spine is laid down. Board panels are stained, sunned and scuffed, all edges rubbed through. Previous owner's bookplate on front paste down. Inside front and back gutters repaired. From the tissue-guard to page 228 (7 pages), the lower 5 1/2" is separated from gutter. External page edges are age- and soil-darkened. Text pages are age-toned and with intermittent foxing. Please use close-up options for best inspection and in support of condition description.
