About this Item

Provides good information on design ideas leading into the 1870s, particularly regarding the efficiency of various hull shapes and of sails. Includes no information on construction methods, and recommends "The Yacht Sailor," by Vanderdecken for sailing instruction. Armorial bookplate of Hugh Cecil Lowther, the 5th Earl of Lonsdale on front pastedown. Ref. TOY 4722. Bound in speckled light green cloth over boards with dark green leather spine and fore corners. Spine titled and ornamented in gilt, marbled endpapers, top edge gilt. Frontispiece has faint stain in lower margin beneath image. Minor extremity wear, some rubs to joints, with a bit of darkening to spine, else near fine. Half leather over cloth boards. Duodecimo. 131 pages.
