Condition Fine: First edition, first printing; very clean and bright original dark blue cloth boards with firm spine tips and sharp corners to the boards; no previous owner's marks; very clean and tight end papers and text block with no spotting. Dust jacket condition: Fine: wraparound jacket illustration by Geoff Hunt of a sea chase between two ships; notable review by T J Binyon in The Sunday Times to the verso: "Considered as a whole, the sequence (of Aubrey-Maturin books) is an immense achievement". Jacket has minor patchy edge/shelf wear, the odd very small mark, very minor fading to spine, the odd minor crease/rub to edges and minor pushing/rubbing to head/tail of spine and to corners. Boards are near fine with a hint of pushing to corners and very minor pushing/rubbing to head/tail of spine. Pages are generally clean and the binding is tight. Top edges of pages are tanned (not uniformly so). Pages slightly tanned. Very occasional small mark to pages. No other faults. A nice copy. All books described honestly and accurately.
