Nutritional Aspects of HIV Infection

Recent advances have occurred in understanding the role of malnutrition in AIDS. Topics such as the AIDS' wasting syndrome, metabolic changes, the role of opportunistic infections and weight loss are covered. This definitive volume includes a foreword from the National Institute of Health and provides considerations for special patient populations including children and women. The book is broken into three major sections; after an introductory section that presents general information on the subject and some background, the second section details the effects of HIV on specific body functions including metabolic changes, gastrointestinal function, micronutrients, endocrinopathies and other organ systems. The third section presents the different types of nutritional interventions that seek to combat or alleviate these problems.
