44, [18 (adverts)] pp. Pp 6-7 provides a "Brief History of Coalinga", noting that "in 1912, the oil business began to slump." Besides the cover image, the year book illustrated with 19 other original silver gelatin prints, ranging in size from 1-5/8" x 1" [individual students] to 4" x 6". The girl's basketball team image is 2-15/16" x 4". Binding: 10-1/4" x 7-1/4" Coalinga "is a city in the Pleasant Valley in Fresno County and the western San Joaquin Valley, in central California about 80 miles SE of Salinas. Before 20th-C diesel locomotives, steam locomotives were used, and powered in the San Joaquin Valley, by burning coal mined from the northern foothills of Mount Diablo to the north. The Southern Pacific Railroad Company established the site as a coaling station in 1888, and it was called simply Coaling Station A," which, in time, apparently morphed into the town's present name of Coalinga. The first post office was established in 1899, and the city was incorporated in 1906. The Colinga Union High School was built in 1910, with its 1916 Senior Class fielding but 11 individuals [9 women, 2 men]. We find *no* copies of this yearbook recorded on OCLC. An excellent primary resource for researching the early years, and individuals, associated with the CA central valley. Binding worn, with tear to right side of cover oval. Text block detached. The occasional interior stain, and creased corner. A Good [only] copy of this rare survivor. Dark grey paper covers, lettered in orange, with front cover having an oval cut-out, with a b/w photographic image therein, of "Silver Tip No. 1 A Gusher in Coalinga Fields" [caption]. Now housed in a clear archival mylar sleeve.…
