Probable Howard Chandler Christy-illustrated first edition but a later printing of the book itself which was first published in 1887. Unpaged. Hardcover; H 22.5cm x L 16.25cm. Lacks dust jacket. Green cloth, gilt spine lettering lightly dulled except at heel where publisher lettering is worn with cloth lightly frayed, mild fraying at head of spine too, white stamped decoration on spine and front board rubbed as well, front board gilt stamped lettering remains bright, light wear and bumping at corners, mild rubbing, small indentation upon rear board with several spots of light discoloration. Endpapers browned. Some foxing on half-title; minimal internal foxing. Gift inscription on verso of frontispiece. Several slight cracks to binding but still reasonably firm. Features the original story text by James Whitcomb Riley with numerous illustrations by Howard Chandler Christy with page decorations by Margaret Armstrong. A good copy.
