Very Good, overall. Hand stitched binding with uncut pages. Spotty discoloration throughout. First edition. 71 pages. 5.75" x 9". Head gardener at Kensington palace during the reign of King George III, William Forsyth (1737-1894) is credited with reviving the royal orchards there with notable pruning techniques and disease management. This scarce publication discussing curing decaying and unproductive trees preceded his more widely available expansion on the work, A Treatise On The Culture And Management Of Fruit-Trees (1802), by more than a decade. Besides his success in reviving aged fruit trees, Forsyth's ability to bring decaying forest trees back to health was a tremendous boon to the lucrative and essential lumber industry. The appendix includes letters exchanged between Forsyth and the Land Revenue Office and testimonials to the efficacy of Forsyth's "plaister," which included cow dung and lime and could be reconstituted with "urine of any kind." .
