In-8º. (4)ff, 249pp & 1 folding plate. First ed. Woodcut headpieces. Some light foxing. Bound in full original calf, gilt on spine and raised bands. Red edges and marbled endpapers.French theorist. He was a canon in Ecouis, but apparently spent many years in Lyons and was a frequent visitor to Paris. As a proponent of Rameau's theories, his goal was to reduce fundamental bass rules to a rigorous system that avoided speculative propositions. His Traité des accords is a compendium of chords and laws: thoroughbass chords are methodically described.
