About this Item
Small Quarto. 304p. index. Nasmim argues that the period from 1820 to 1890 constitutes "a distinct regime of observational practice" (p. 230) in astronomy. In contrast to the pen and ink work of William Herschel, the use of graphite allowed another dimension of viewing the nebulae. He introduces a summary of nebular observations making use of the landmark work of Michael Hoskin on William Herschel and focusing on the drawings of six other astronomers. He shows how variations using different telescopes produced different drawings including cases where the expert used the same telescope. One of the most significant works on astronomy since the advances since Hubble. Bound in black cloth, spine lettering silver, one corner lightly bumped, near fine in fine dust jacket.
