viii+320 pages. Octavo (8 1/4" x 5 1/2") bound in original publisher's brown cloth with gilt lettering to spine over brown boards in original pictorial jacket. First edition. Novelist, poet and scholar, Robert Graves went from his school days right to the trenches in WW I. Seriously wounded during the Battle of the Somme, he began writing during his convalescence, to explore his feelings about war. That was the beginning of a long distinguished career. Besides his epic novels, he also penned a series of short stories, essays, plays and interviews. This volume collects together the best of these works. Condition: Offset darkening to end papers. Jacket edge wear with closed tears else very good to fine in like jacket.
