First edition of Moore s translation. Large (27 x 21 cm) quarto in very good condition. ¾ leather on somewhat worn marbled boards. Spine with wear at top and chips at the bottom, label intact. Front hinge weak, wear at corners and bottom of spine. Large margins, foxing on engraved frontispiece and title-page, scattered elsewhere. Small engraved portrait of Anacreon, Cupid. Moore s translation collects every fragment. With scholarly notes, a discussion of other editions starting with the Estienne, an indext of Greek first lines, a long list of subscribers. Collation a-c. B-Kk. This is the first edition of Moore s first work, which is apt, given Moore s talents as a lyricist. Moore was by far the most famous Irish Romantic of his time.
