Item description from seller

Entire issue, September 1, 1952, in original pictorial wraps with a portrait of the author by Eisenstaedt, light general wear only, overall very clean and bright, with mailing label at lower corner. The first appearance of the Pulitzer prize-winning story of an old Cuban fisherman and his desperate battle with a huge marlin and predatory sharks, illustrated with another color photo by Eisenstaedt, and several drawings by Sickles. Issue also includes an editorial titled, A Great American Storyteller, that introduces the popularized symbolism in the story thusly, "Perhaps the old man is Hemingway himself, the great fish is this great story and the sharks are the critics." See Hanneman C370.
