First edition (first printing). A fine copy in printed stapled wrappers. Uncommon. Two short texts by Booker T. Washington advocating for equality in voting between while and black men (women's suffrage is not addressed). The first text is a letter written to the constitutional convention in Louisiana supporting a test for voting so long as "no one clothed with State authority will be tempted to perjure and degrade himself, by putting one interpretation upon it for the white man and another for the black man." The second piece printed here is the text of an article that ran in the Atlanta Constitution newspaper in 1900 expressing Washington's opposition to a bill pending in the Georgia state legislature that aimed to disenfranchise black citizens. 8 pages.
