Corners and spine ends bumped with wear, boards worn and rubbed, lacks front free end paper, larger fold-out illustration was badly folded so it extends beyond edge of text block, damp stain at gutter through about page 51, pages toned, some scattered light foxing, pages 445-448 foxed, first fold-out map foxed, creased, one edge chipped with tear in blank margin; some foxing on plates, amount varies from plate to plate, second fold-out plate chipped along fore edge. Page xv, titled Description of the Frontispiece, indicates that the Steam Engine Connected with a Sugar Mill by Taylor & Martineau was a frontispiece; however, this plate is bound in just before the plates.
