These included almonds, apples, chestnuts, cucumbers, melons, ulberrys, pomegranates, quinces, and more.Written by Charles M'Intosh, or McIntosh, who was the head gardener to the Duke of Buccleuch at Dalkeith.Collated, bound without plates facing pages 85 and 325. In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, generally smart, with light marks to the boards and spine, a little heavier to the rear board. Minor rubbing to the joints and extremities. Spine is a little faded. Rear hinge is starting but firm. Lacking the rear endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very lightly age-toned and clean with the occasional scattered spot. This work details the technique of forcing fruit trees as well as their general management. With a hand-coloured frontispiece, hand-coloured title page, and sixteen plates. The plates depict a variety of fruits and blossoms.Collated, complete.Written by Charles McIntosh or M'Intosh who is known for writing one of the most representative High Victorian gardening books 'The Book of the Garden'. Another work by him is 'The New and Improved Practical Gardener'. At the time of writing this work M'Intosh was the head gardener to the Duke of Buccleuch at Dalkeith. In a half calf binding, with paper covered boards. Externally, very smart. Light rubbing to the joints and extremities. A few small marks to the spine. Evidence of bookplate removal to the front pastedown. Hinges are strained but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright. Occasional light spots to pages. Very Good. book.
