The December 2, 1862 edition of the World, a New York City anti-Lincoln newspaper with a front-page printing of Abraham Lincoln's State of the Union speech, arguably his most important as it was shortly after the his preliminary Emancipation Proclamation and just a month before the Proclamation would take effect. In his address, Lincoln's tackles slavery in detail, including grandfathered as well as eventual emancipation for slaves residing within the United States, which at the time were not covered by the Emancipation Proclamation. Lincoln's address covers five complete columns on the front page as well as a column on page two and features his signature in block type at the end. The paper is made more displayable by the multiple stacked headlines preceding the speech. A few minor stains to lower front page.
