Detailed Description:
This is a magnificent, large-format pop-up adaptation of Beatrix Potter?s timeless classic The Tale of Peter Rabbit. First issued in 1996, this edition faithfully reproduces the original watercolour illustrations while adding spectacular three-dimensional pop-up scenes, interactive flaps, pull-tabs, and clever paper engineering by Colin Twinn.
Author & Production Details:
Beatrix Potter (1866?1943) is one of the most iconic children?s authors and illustrators. Her mischievous Peter Rabbit tale has enchanted readers since 1902. Colin Twinn expertly adapted the artwork and engineered the intricate mechanisms for this highly interactive edition.
Condition: Like New / Pristine
This copy is in outstanding like-new condition ? appears unread and carefully stored. Glossy pictorial boards are bright, clean, and free of rubbing, scratches, or fading. Sharp corners, tight spine, crisp unmarked pages. No tears or creases except for one minor note below.
All mechanisms work perfectly. Every pop-up rises fully and smoothly, every tab and flap operates without resistance or damage. This level of preservation is rare for a 28-year-old pop-up book.
Notable Interactive Features by Spread:
First spread: Pull-tab activates the blackberry bush movement while bunnies collect blackberries; separate pull-tab shows Peter leaving the scene.
Second spread: Pull-tab McGregor chase scene; Peter hides behind the bean plants while stuffing himself with radishes (with additional flaps).
Third spread: Moving gooseberry bush reveals Peter caught in the net, then escaping narrowly as Mr. McGregor approaches with his sieve.
Fourth spread: Tool shed scene with moving/falling flower pots that reveal hidden mini scenes behind them.
Fifth spread: Wheelbarrow mechanism with Peter inside; adjacent pond features a white cat watching the koi fish ? the fish revolve in the pond via a wheel mechanism (turned by finger on the edge of the book); opening/closing the page creates the wheelbarrow sound effect; mini chasing scene behind the gate flap.
Final sixth spread: Burrow/home scene with Peter in bed ? opening and closing the page moves Mother Rabbit?s hand and Peter?s head; cupboard flap opens (this is the only flap with a tiny crease through the middle ? all other mechanisms are flawless).
Story Content:
Follow naughty Peter as he squeezes under the gate, feasts in Mr. McGregor?s garden, loses his jacket and shoes, evades capture, and returns home tired to his mother?s camomile tea.
This 1996 pop-up edition is a favourite among Beatrix Potter collectors and pop-up enthusiasts for its faithful illustrations and engaging mechanics. In this near-perfect, fully functional state, it is a true collector?s gem.
