Actor Luke Wilson's copy of this original draft screenplay for Wes Anderson's first feature film BOTTLE ROCKET (1996) with Wilson's annotations throughout. Anderson's BOTTLE ROCKET, his first feature, was an expansion of his 1994 short film of the same name. The film starred Owen Wilson (who also co-wrote the script) and his brother Luke both unknowns at the time making their feature film debuts. The brothers star as Dignan and Anthony, two friends who stage overly-elaborate low-stakes heists with the help of their reluctant third, Bob (Robert Musgrave). BOTTLE ROCKET was Luke Wilson's first acting credit and the abundance of annotations throughout this script give a glimpse of a thoughtful, early-career actor's process: across over 75 annotations, from acting notes ("Bob MEAN look from Anthony") to dialogue alterations (a third of a page simply marked "lose") to brief spouts of textual exegesis ("first deep moment, very important"), it is clear that Wilson was very much a co-creator of this project. BOTTLE ROCKET is often singled out as the least Anderson-y of his oeuvre. Notably absent is the heightened, almost fantastic realism that would come to characterize Anderson's later work unless you consider the Herculean suspension of disbelief required to accept the Wilson brothers as non-relatives despite having precisely the same vocal cadence as each other and exactly no one else on Earth.
