In the original French.The very scarce first edition of this posthumously published collection of the theological works of French Benedictine monk and scholar Jean Mabillon, and one of his disciples, Maurist Thierry Ruinart.After Mabillon's death in 1707, and Ruinart's death in 1709, Vincent Thuillier found a number of unpublished manuscripts from the two theologians, and edited and published this work. The first volume contains Mabillon's works and a selection of correspondences, the second volume works from both Mabillon and Ruinart, along with some already published works from Mabillon, and the third volume contains Ruinart's biography of the life of Urban II.With library markings to back strip tails, and the stamp of the library of St. Augustine's Abbey Ramsgate to title pages and final leaves, and their bookplate to front pastedowns. Further inscriptions, dated 1833, to verso of each front free endpaper.A very scarce work of early eighteenth century theology. In full calf bindings, with gilt detailing to back strips. Library markings to back strip tail. Rubbing back strip head and tail, joints and board perimeters. Front and rear joints of volumes I, and front joints of volumes II and III starting, with front board of volume III tender, and remaining boards holding firm. Bookplate to front pastedowns. Inscription to verso of front free endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Library stamps to title page and final leaf of each volume. Spotting to volume I, with the odd light spot to remaining volumes.
