While the information presented is accurate, coverage is uneven, and there are some omissions. Trailer safety is discussed, but there is no mention of how to load or unload the horse. The chapter on feeding is excellent and thorough but that on equine health neglects to list basic first-aid supplies for horses. More illustrations would have been helpful; the novice probably would not know a curry comb from a sweat scraper. Libraries needing this type of information should consider Cherry Hill's more comprehensive Horse keeping on Small Acreage ( LJ 8/90).
