In this book we hear the authentic voice of the outback drover before the roar of motors drowned out the music of the horse-bells. During the decades of the 50s Bruce Simpson walked herds of cattle more than 1200 strong from the Northern Territory to the railhead at Dajarra or to fattening properties 'inside' (in Queensland). His poems and yarns about this tough, uncompromising life are widely known in the bush. Several times winner and placegetter in the Bronze Swagman Awards, retired drover Bruce Simpson makes regular tours to poetry festivals in rural Australia. In 1990, he toured the United States with a group organised by the Australian Stockman's Hall of Fame and the American Western Folklore Centre. Ref KKK 5.
