Item description from seller

Extensively annotated by a contemporaory reader in pen and pencil with underlining, marginal glosses, and commentary on nearly every page. First Printing with 'First Edition' stated on the verso and DJ priced $2.50. 8vo, sewn binding in gray cloth, red spine lettering. 222pp. Dampstain to spine head, ink splotches to front cover, owner's name to FFEP with date partly torn off but with a fragment of a '5' following '19', putting it at least within a decade of publication; DJ worn and scuffed. These markings have 'gone around the horn' from an obstructive nuissance to something valuable in their own right. The annotations show a contemporary reader's very enthusiastic response to this best-selling encapsulation of the message of the most popular, influential, and long-standing evangelists in world history, credited with the mainstreaming of Fundamentalism in America.
