Add to basketOctavo, pp. [1-4] 5 [6] 7 [8] 9-350 [351-352: ads], original orange cloth, front and spine panels stamped in black, top edge stained light green. First edition, first printing. A wild-and-wooly world catastrophe fantasy of racial and ideological conflict, with a secret organization of Asians and American Indians (The Yellow Wheel), headquartered in a Tibetan monastery, plotting to wipe out the decadent white civilization using an artificial plague. An alliance of German, Japanese and white North Americans (The Green Cross, under the direction of the novel's Japanese hero, Dr. Kitsura) uses hypnosis to break into the Tibetan laboratory and steal some of the plague germs in order to fabricate a vaccine. War breaks out and a third of the world's population is quickly killed; the rest are mutated into a kind of ageless condition. Vast refugee movements swirl around the globe. Europe degenerates into a primitive agrarian condition. Dr. Kitsura saves the day by locating a mystical book in California which proves that the Japanese and Indians have a common ancestry, prompting a reconciliation between the warring parties and the establishment of a worldwide matriarchal utopia. Clarke, Voices Prophesying War: Future Wars 1763-3749 (1992), p. 238. Bloch (2002) 1502. Not in Nagl. Cloth foxed, endpapers foxed, scattered foxing to text block, mostly early and late and to page edges, a very good copy. (#152272).
