Slipcase, H 34cm x L 26.25cm, rubbed with some soiling and staining; several surface nicks at edges; short splitting at top and bottom entry seams. Dust jacket toned and soiled with some stains particularly along spine; two small red ink check marks to rear panel's title list; scuffs/nicks at edges with old tape repair to tear at front flap fold heel; front flap retains publisher's printed price at bottom right. [2], 247, [1] pages. Hardcover: H 33cm x L 25.75cm. Brown cloth with dark red lettering to front board and spine. Slight foxing to text block's top edge and fore-edge. Past owner's personal bookplate on half-title page; several leaves at center have impressions of two removed rusty paper clips and some associated rippling at their top margins; red ink underlining occurs in the Chronological Index as well as the General Index; two red ink check marks minimally mar the Bibliography; no other such markings found amongst the book's text or plate sections which otherwise remain clean. Binding is firm. Classic review of notable structures in South Carolina's coastal lowcountry region, the first edition of which was published in 1938. Features b/w photographic plates by Charles Richard Banks, Ben Judah Lubschez (1881-1963), and the remarkable Frances Benjamin Johnston (1864-1952) whose magnificent images complete similar architectural monographs regarding North Carolina and Tidewater Virginia.
