First impression of the true first edition. ***Very good in red cloth-covered boards with white titles and rules to spine. Edges of boards slightly rubbed. Top edge of text-block darkened. Pages clean. Spine tight. No inscriptions. ***In a very good colour printed dustwrapper which has not been price-clipped, showing publishers original price of 12s 6d net. Edges of dustwrapper creased, nicked, rubbed and browned. Dustwrapper rubbed (being matt white background). Very small loss and creases to head of spine of dustwrapper. Tail of spine of dustwrapper slightly creased. Small surface scuff to bottom of rear panel of dustwrapper where price-sticker has been removed. Red titles not faded. ***136 pages. 206 mm x 126 mm. ***'When John Osborne's two "Plays for England" were produced at the Royal Court Theatre in 1962 they caused a sensation. The Blood of the Bambergs, a satire on the royal wedding and on the whole mystique of modern royalty, was - for many people - outrageous enough. But it was Under Plain Cover which created the greater stir. "Mr. Osborne's courage," wrote Kenneth Tynan in the Observer, "is doubly flabbergasting: not only does he state the facts about a sado-masochistic menage, he also refrains from condemning it.' And in the Sunday Times Harold Hobson was equally forthright: "Under Plain Cover stuns and shocks. For the first time it brings Genet into England." ***The Plays for England are further evidence - if such evidence were needed - of Mr. Osborne's brilliance and originality.' (Quotes from inside front of jacket blurb). ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc.…
