Numerous plates showing armorial designs and decorative objects. Internally clean. Full leather; spines split; upper cover of vol 1 detached; rubbed and worn. Good only. Attractive bookplates of the Rev. Edmund Farrer dated 1889 showing an armorially decorated shield propped up against a tree in a rural setting with a church tower in the background. This is undoubtedly his own church, St Mary's Hinderclay. The church tower had begun to subside and crack by 1893. Pieces of masonry had fallen from it. Interestingly the bookplate, some four years earlier, shows, above the tower, a steeple of sorts with a cross on top which was not present in the photograph of the church which he sent to potential donors for its restoration in 1897.
