The nineteenth century German scholar Leander van Ess's library was purchased by the Union Theological Seminary in the City of New York in 1838. His collection contained Bibles in a number of languages, works on church history, ecclesiastical law as well as medieval manuscripts. The catalogue itself is preceded by a brief biography of van Ess and some introductory notes to the collection. Well illustrated in black and white, with one color plate and one color fold out plate.
