First US edition, first prnt. Signed by Golding on the half-title page. Holograph note by Golding on his personalized 4x5.5 inch postcard is laid-in. "I'm sending back the twenty because it's more than is necessary and it's difficult to change. Best wishes William Golding." Also laid-in is Golding's holograph return address cut from the return mailer. Postcard in Fine condition. Book with beginning board edge and topedge toning and spine topedge cloth lightly worn; dustjacket with touch of shelfwear, mostly at corners and spine ends, beginning toning on spine and flap folds and a price-clip. Very Good condition in a Very Good dustjacket with an archival cover. Golding's sixth novel. Seller Inventory # 50859
