Faint binding edgewear; text block uniformly tight and near fine (though facing pages 462-63 of index show age toning from long-ado newsprint contact). A tight and attractive first edition of what eventually became a four-volume set (the other volumes being issued in 1896, 1903 and 1914). Inner flyleaf bears huge pencilled January 1st, 1892 ownership signature of noted Cedar Rapids, Iowa businessman J.R. Amidon and modern name/address inkstamp. "The more active of the various state commanderies of this organization published volumes containing personal reminiscences of life in camp, battle, and prison, "writes James I.
