Seventy-five years after its publication, Peacock Pie still brims with sweetness, melancholy, and wonderful images re-establishing de la Mare as a master creator of other worlds and an illuminator of this one. This anniversary edition treats de la Mare's masterpiece with the respect it deserves. The poems are placed cleanly on the page. Brierley's accompanying sketches and watercolors offer a thoughtful counterpoint to the poems--they too are wistful, enigmatic impressions.
