Leipzig: Bernhard Tauchnitz, 1842. Captain Frederick Marryat (1792-1848), of the Royal Navy, became a popular novelist of (what else?) sea stories, a progenitor of Conrad, O'Brien, and Forester. His works were extensively reprinted during the 19th century; This is a Very Good (Plus) copy of the Copyright Edition. Number 24 in the publisher's "Collection of British Authors." An early printing; Tauchnitz had started the long-running series only one year prior. Bound in light tan suede with titling and decorations in gilt; titling on the spine in gilt within a black compartment. Clean text; 371 pages; ribbon bookmark; black topstain. There are two interesting bookplates on the front paste-down, one dated from 1913, and a pencil signature on the first free endpaper. Quite a nice copy. First Edition Thus. Decorative Cloth. Very Good (Plus)/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.

Terms of sale
We accept checks and money orders in US Dollars. Credit card orders are accepted through ABE. California residents must add appropriate sales tax (currently 7.25%). Items are returnable for any reason within ten days of receipt (please email or call first before returning item).
Shipping terms
Orders usually ship within 2 business days. Shipping costs are based on books weighing 2.2 LB, or 1 KG. Due to the recent turmoil in postal rates (particularly for International orders)shipping costs may need to be assessed on an individual basis. It is our policy to ship at the exact cost. If your book order is heavy or oversized, we may need to contact you to let you know that extra shipping is required. Our more valuable books will be sent with insurance.
