First edition, first printing of Sue Grafton's P Is for Peril, part of the acclaimed Kinsey Millhone alphabet mystery series. Published in 2001 by G. P. Putnam's Sons as a Marian Wood Book, this installment finds private investigator Kinsey Millhone investigating the mysterious disappearance of a respected physician in Santa Teresa, California. As with many of Grafton's novels, the narrative combines tightly constructed detective fiction with sharp characterization and dry wit. This copy is a particularly well-preserved example of the first printing. The original unclipped dust jacket retains the publisher's printed price of $26.95 / Canada $38.99 and shows only light shelf wear. The book is bound in the publisher's original black cloth spine over gray paper boards with silver spine lettering and the large 'P' design on the front board. The binding remains tight and square, and the pages are bright and clean throughout. No ownership marks, inscriptions, or bookplates are present. Overall, a handsome collectible first printing from one of the most successful modern mystery series. Sue Grafton (1940-2017) was an American crime novelist best known for her bestselling alphabet mystery series featuring private investigator Kinsey Millhone. Beginning with A Is for Alibi in 1982, the series became a landmark in modern detective fiction and helped redefine the genre through its strong female protagonist and tightly plotted narratives. …
