Mit einer wunderschönen handkolorierten Tafel, welche die Springmaus von Kanada zeigt. - "The Philosophical Magazine" wurde 1798 von Alexander Tilloch gegründet und ist eine der am längsten in englischer Sprache erschienenen wissenschaftlichen Zeitschriften. Der vorliegend erste Jahrgang enthält u. a. Humboldts "Über die Wirkung von Sauerstoff auf die Beschleunigung der Keimung", Schraders "Beschreibung des Mechanismus eines 26 Fuß langen Spiegelteleskops, das in der Nähe von Kiel in Holstein konstruiert wurde", Abbé Hauys "Zur Theorie der Struktur der Kristalle" in erster englischer Übersetzung. - Einband an Kapitalen und Gelenken leicht beschädigt, 1 Tafel etwas gelockert, sonst sehr gutes Exemplar. - With a beautifully hand-coloured plate depicting the 'Jumping Mouse of Canada'. - The Philosophical Magazine was founded by Alexander Tilloch in 1798 and is one of the longest-running scientific journals published in English. This is the first volume published, and contains articles on such diverse topics as Humboldt's 'On the Effects of Oxygen in Accelerating Germination', Schrader's 'Description of the Mechanism of a Reflecting Telescope twenty-Six Feet in Length Constructed Near Kiel in Holstein', Abbé Hauy's 'On the Theory of the Structure of Crystals' and many other articles on topics such as zoology, chemistry, physics and botany. - Binding slightly damaged at ends and hinges, otherwise a very good copy.
