About the Author

Dr. James L. Castner is an entomologist, tropical biologist, photographer, writer, and publisher. He received his BS from Rutgers University and his MS and PhD from the University of Florida. He has written on a wide variety of subjects, but his favorites topics are entomology and the rainforest. He has conducted reserch on the biodiversity of insects in the Amazon Basin for over 12 years.

Dr. Castner resigned his academic position several years ago to concentrate his efforts on writing and publishing educational titles for diverse audiences. His books to date have included titles dealing with Amazon insects, forensic entomology, medicinal plants, and a learning center for secondary school teachers. He is currently working on a six-part series of books on the Amazon for children.

Dr. Castner intends to continue writing in the future, but would like to increase his interaction with students and educators. He is currently seeking a position at a small university where he may continue to teach a variety of subjects including entomology, tropical biology, and photography. He firmly believe in hands-on classes, spending as much time in the field as possible, and showing students that science can be both interesting and fun.
