The five original paper front covers which are usually missing from bound volumes are here inserted to rear, are in fair/poor condition only for ref. No ink inscriptions, inside front cover is the original owners decorative bookplate of Robert Clayton Swan within his coat-of-arms, all gilt edges. Originally the individual illustrations appeared scattered within the famous Punch Magazine over a period of about 15 years. This book is full of 1000 s of titled illustrations that include all types of English life, The Great Exhibition 1851, social & military life, dress of the day including top hats, flat hats, flowing dresses etc., habits, behaviour, work, play, entertainment, amusements, hunting, racing, fishing, cricket, golf, shooting boating, children, inns / taverns, clubs & organizations, canoeing, railroads, horses, opera, parties & balls, chess, farming, business, law, soldiers, husbandry, coaching, education, home life, social life, games, politics, including all types of upper & lower classes, and so much more.
