A series of 53 copper etched architectural views + an engraved title page, each interleaved with plain paper guards to each plate all of which have remained fox free, (possibly due to no acids used in the paper), very clean strong deep strikes, back of one plate has scuff marks, plate unaffected. Top board detached, spine with loss. List of the plates tipped in before 1st etching and shorter than the size of the book. Large quarto. 32 x 25 cm. *This is a very scarce title and whilst it states it is a series of "views" the plates are more a record of the architecture of country dwellings and streets at this time [1815] and NOT imaginary rural idylls, many have figures and few are the usual static "olde worlde" castles and the familiar topographical fodder in 19th century books. They all seem to have been drawn from the spot by these academy quality artists. One of a scene near Lincoln is by Augustus Pugin. A detailed work for architects and an historically important work on rural dwellings at the end of the 18th century in England and Wales (at least 10 plates are Welsh scenes).
