First Edition. This copy with four original charcoal sketches on thin paper presumably for different concepts for the dustjacket. The works are unsigned, as is the final jacket art for the book but we believe them to be the work of Cyrus LeRoy Baldridge. Nautical adventure novel set on the Yangtse River, of an American silk trader who overcomes the trials of his work. "Stirring incidents of shipwrecks, pirate fights, treacheries, escapes and rescues, the myriad common millions of China, each counting for less than one drop of the Yangtse's yellow flood - ground down, betrayed, starved, but constantly renewed". Republished by Bobbs Merrill in 1934 as River Supreme. Near Fine in attractive Near Fine crisp dustjacket.
